Canada School of Public Service Direxion - Leadership Excellence

The Canada School of Public Service leads the government's enterprise-wide approach to learning by providing a common, standardized curriculum that supported public servants through key career transitions, ensuring that they are equipped to serve Canadians with excellence.

The Challenge

Public service leaders  must embrace complexity, accept the incredible uncertainty, partner in a very different way with a willingness to  enter into explorative conversations across government and beyond as well as act upon the need for public reform as part of the reality of governing in the 21st century. This requires exceptional leadership.

The Work (Nxk Difference)

Our job was to design and facilitate a leadership experience that enabled managers to think and act like executives. We partnered with our client group over 10 years keeping the learnings relevant and impactful… facilitating over 70 weeks with numerous cohorts.

Direxion- an intensive 6-week leadership development program and was divided into three phases of 2 weeks each over an 18- month timeframe. It included coaching, assessments, dialogue sessions, simulations, skill practice, guest resources, study tours focusing on regional, national and international issues and sessions with leading academics.

The Results

Evaluations at many levels reported impact:

  • A renewed sense of confidence in their leadership capability

  • A deeper and more realistic picture of themselves and the concrete actions required to shift mindsets and behaviours; they could identify new patterns, to “see the new” and to respond appropriately to it as it is emerging is needed

  • More effective teams

  • Increased capability in leading through ambiguity and change initiatives.

  • Having the tough conversations and to working across organizational and sectoral boundaries
